How to find every clip of a person in a large video archive

To find every clip of a person in a large archive, run face recognition over the footage and name each person once. Jumper groups similar faces locally, so after you name someone, you can search for them across every analyzed project. The same people catalog works in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid and the Standalone app.

Logging every appearance of a person by hand doesn’t scale. Local face recognition finds the faces in your own footage, lets you name them, and doesn’t upload anything.

How to do it in Jumper

Face recognition is part of Jumper Pro.

  1. Keep productions separate. Give each show its own analysis library so names from one show don’t turn up in another.
  2. Analyze the footage. Face detection runs on your computer.
  3. Name the groups. Jumper groups likely matches. Name the people you need and leave the rest.
  4. Search. Search for one person, for several people in the same shot, or for a person plus a visual description like “drinking.”
  5. Use the results. Open a hit in the Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve, or Avid plugin and send it to a bin or the timeline.

Names are shared between the plugins and the standalone app, so a team that works in more than one NLE only names people once.

FAQ

Can I find a non-celebrity in my footage?

Yes. Jumper groups similar faces from the footage you analyze instead of matching against a celebrity database. You name the people who matter, then search for them.

Is face recognition done in the cloud?

No. Face detection, grouping, and search run locally in Jumper, and face data isn't sent to a cloud service for recognition.

Does the people catalog work in Premiere and Resolve?

Yes. Name a person once and the name works in the Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve, and Avid plugins and in the standalone app.

Can I find two people in the same shot?

Yes. Search for two or more named people and Jumper finds the shots where they appear together.

Which Jumper plan includes face recognition?
