Avid MCP for footage search
Jumper is one of the few ways to connect AI agents to Avid Media Composer. Its MCP server lets Claude, Codex, and other agents search your footage by what is shown, what is said, and who appears, read the sequence you have open, and write edits back through an AAF bridge that preserves Avid’s media links. Analysis runs locally, including on shared storage.

Where Jumper fits in Avid
Jumper gives AI agents an understanding of your footage. It complements the tools that operate Avid rather than replacing them.
PhraseFind AI and ScriptSync AI
Media Composer’s AI tools are built around dialog: PhraseFind AI searches transcribed speech, and ScriptSync AI lines clips up with a script. They do not search what is shown on screen, and they are not available to AI agents.
MCP servers for Avid
Avid does not offer an MCP server, and we have not found a community one. Jumper connects agents to Media Composer through its own panel and an AAF bridge, so agents can read the open sequence and write edits back without breaking media links.
| PhraseFind AI and ScriptSync AI | Jumper | |
|---|---|---|
| Search by what is shown | Not available | Natural-language visual search |

Set up Avid with Claude or Codex
- 1
Install Jumper for Avid Media Composer
Download Jumper and install the Media Composer panel, then analyze the footage you want the agent to work with, including footage on shared storage such as Avid NEXIS.
- 2
Connect your AI agent
In Jumper, open Settings and scroll to AI Agents. Click Install for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or OpenAI Codex Desktop. Any other agent harness can use the MCP URL or Jumper’s local API.
- 3
Check the connection
Ask your agent “can you use Jumper?”. It confirms the connection and can check which of your media is analyzed.
Example prompts for Avid
“Read my current sequence and list the interviewees in order of appearance.”
“Find every confessional with @Maya and build a selects sequence.”
“Pull archive shots of factory interiors into a new sequence.”
“Search the transcripts for every mention of the merger and give me an AAF of the answers.”
Good to know
- Edits reach Avid through AAF rather than a live API, so Jumper preserves Avid’s media and link metadata when writing changes.
- The agent works with footage Jumper has analyzed; it can start missing analysis for you.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an MCP server for Avid Media Composer?
Avid does not ship one, and we have not found community Media Composer MCP servers. Jumper’s MCP server connects AI agents to Media Composer: they can search analyzed footage, read the active sequence, and write edits back through AAF.
How is this different from PhraseFind AI and ScriptSync AI?
PhraseFind AI and ScriptSync AI work with dialog and scripts inside Media Composer. Jumper adds visual search, named-people search, and access for AI agents, and works across your whole analyzed library.
Does it work with Avid NEXIS shared storage?
Jumper can analyze footage on shared storage, and teams can share analysis so every editor and agent searches the same index.
Is my footage uploaded to the AI provider?
No. Jumper analyzes and searches footage locally. The agent only receives metadata such as file paths, timecodes, transcript excerpts, and search results.
